My Favourite Friendships

I love seeing wonderful friendships in books sometimes even more than the romantic relationships. I love how much they love and care for each other and how much they would do for each other. I love seeing the banter and sarcastic remarks and the sibling type arguing. I want to see more great friendships in books! So I thought I would share some of my favourite friendships in books.

Laia and Izzy in An Ember in the Ashes – I loved the friendship that built between them, the tentative way they started to get to know each other because they knew that this would be a weakness that the Commandant would use to hurt them but still decided to become friends, to have at least something good no matter what the Commandant did to them. The way they tried to protect and shield each other and risked their own lives to protect theirs. I really loved them.

Ali, Aqisa and Lubayd in The Kingdom of Copper – I adored their friendship and I was so glad to see that Ali finally met people who he could trust and who would be there for him without wanting something in return. They had such great banter and I loved all of their interactions. I love how they protected each other and some of my favourite scenes are of the three of them.

Cinder and Thorne in The Lunar Chronicles – I read this book years ago and still Cinder and Thorne’s friendship is one of my favourites. They have such witty banter and sass and I love how much they help each other despite only having met when they were both escaped prison. That Thorne stayed with her during her whole revolution despite knowing how dangerous it is and how Cinder did her best to protect him and never forgot him despite everything.

Ayesha and Clara from Ayesha at Last – I loved these two so much and how they had such a wonderful sister bond with each other. How Clara was always there for Ayesha and pushed her to achieve her potential and how Ayesha helped her with her relationship. They are so understanding and even a part of their families lives.

Will And Jem from The Infernal Devices – I absolutely adore these two and their parabatai bond is unlike any other in this universe. The way they look out for each other and care so deeply for each other that they would sacrifice their own happiness and even their life for each other. I also love how much they roast each other and have such funny sarcastic sassy banter. Them being sarcastic to each other is some of my favourite scenes.

Books I Would Love To See Adapted

There’s been some talk recently about books being adapted so it got me thinking again about what books I would love to see adapted into a tv show or film. I just want to see more diverse books being picked up for adaptation! Please adapt diverse books!

So here are my favourite books I want to see adapted:

The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty

AFE38C57-AF0C-46F7-A60B-7A386EB88E45

Look I need this to be adapted into a tv show but adapt it EXACTLY as the book! Imagine seeing Daevabad on screen, imagine seeing the palace and all the mythical creatures and my Alizayd!

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

3D9FD097-DA22-4191-AF6B-F52A33D06AFF

This is another book that would make an amazing tv show so we could see all the details. The tasks that Laia and Helene have to do would look epic and brutal on screen!

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

C2C592F5-B123-4E8E-8BE4-31349B362809

I had heard this was optioned but then never heard anything again about it so please make this a tv show! Imagine seeing Khalid say those beautiful lines to Shahrzad and the beautiful world and imagery that Renee has created.

Love From A To Z by S.K. Ali

Give me my halal love story on the big screen! Let me see my hijabi falling in love while still embracing her faith. Please! I need it!

There’s Something About Sweetie by Sandhya Menon

I love this rom com so much and I need to see it on the big screen! The body positivity and the absolute adorableness I need to see it!

Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluddin

This Pride and Prejudice retelling with Muslim characters absolutely and entirely deserve to be on the big screen! Imagine the angst and tension between Ayesha and Khalid and being able to watch it on the big screen!

So here are the books I would love to see adapted! What books would you love to see adapted? Would you prefer a tv show or film?

Friday Favourites – Books Set in a Country That’s Not Your Own

This was hosted by Something of the Book who created this tag out of a love for lists. Now Geeky Galaxy is taking over the tag. There are different topics for us all to be able to take part and you can find the prompts here. There isn’t a specific number of favourites so it’s entirely up to you how many you share.

So as I live in the UK I will share some books that I read and loved set elsewhere:

Ayesha At Last – This is set in a small community in Canada and desi culture is an important part of the story.

When Dimple Met Rishi – It’s set in the US but Indian culture is also integral to the story.

Other Words for Home – This is set in two different places, in Syria and the US. It’s the story of the MC journey when she has to leave Syria because it’s unsafe for her to live there.

The Weight of our Sky – This is set in Malaysia in 1969 during a period of riots that took place.

All American Muslim Girl – Again it’s set in the US but also includes Syrian and Circassian culture which is an important part of the story.

Love From A to Z – While the beginning is set in the US, the majority of the book is set in Doha.

Ayesha Dean and the Istanbul Intrigue – This book is set in Turkey while the MC is on holiday there with her friends.

So here are some books that I loved set outside of the UK. All of these books are also diverse books!

Friday Favourites – Favourite Side Characters

This is hosted by Something of the Book who created this tag out of a love for lists. There are different topics for us all to be able to take part and you can find the prompts here. There isn’t a specific number of favourites so it’s entirely up to you how many you share. You can share your most or least favourites too!

I often end up loving the side characters as much, if not more, than the main characters. I would love to see some of them get their own books or novellas or even a point of view! Just give me more of them! So here are some of my favourite side characters!

1 Sevro Au Barca from Red Rising – I loved him from the moment we meet him and I loved his friendship with Darrow. I’m kind of scared to read Iron Gold because I can’t cope if anything happens to him.

2 Clara from Ayesha at Last – She is a wonderful friend to Ayesha and is actually the one to introduce Ayesha to Khalid. I loved her relationship with both of them and how much she supports Ayesha and I loved her story arc too.

3 Lubayd from The Kingdom of Copper – Look he was Alizayd’s first proper friend and I love their friendship so much! He protects and supports Ali even more than Ali realises and I just love them.

4 Despina from The Wrath and the Dawn – She is a badass and I just wanted to see more of her. Give me more please!

5 Yasmine from We Hunt the Flame – She is a wonderful friend and sister to Zafira and honestly we do not get to see enough of her. I am hoping we get to see more in book two!

6 Ilsa from This Savage Song – Another character that I adore yet we don’t see nearly enough of!

So these are some of my fave side characters!

Let me know your faves too! Who do you wish you could see more from?
