My Favourite Friendships

I love seeing wonderful friendships in books sometimes even more than the romantic relationships. I love how much they love and care for each other and how much they would do for each other. I love seeing the banter and sarcastic remarks and the sibling type arguing. I want to see more great friendships in books! So I thought I would share some of my favourite friendships in books.

Laia and Izzy in An Ember in the Ashes – I loved the friendship that built between them, the tentative way they started to get to know each other because they knew that this would be a weakness that the Commandant would use to hurt them but still decided to become friends, to have at least something good no matter what the Commandant did to them. The way they tried to protect and shield each other and risked their own lives to protect theirs. I really loved them.

Ali, Aqisa and Lubayd in The Kingdom of Copper – I adored their friendship and I was so glad to see that Ali finally met people who he could trust and who would be there for him without wanting something in return. They had such great banter and I loved all of their interactions. I love how they protected each other and some of my favourite scenes are of the three of them.

Cinder and Thorne in The Lunar Chronicles – I read this book years ago and still Cinder and Thorne’s friendship is one of my favourites. They have such witty banter and sass and I love how much they help each other despite only having met when they were both escaped prison. That Thorne stayed with her during her whole revolution despite knowing how dangerous it is and how Cinder did her best to protect him and never forgot him despite everything.

Ayesha and Clara from Ayesha at Last – I loved these two so much and how they had such a wonderful sister bond with each other. How Clara was always there for Ayesha and pushed her to achieve her potential and how Ayesha helped her with her relationship. They are so understanding and even a part of their families lives.

Will And Jem from The Infernal Devices – I absolutely adore these two and their parabatai bond is unlike any other in this universe. The way they look out for each other and care so deeply for each other that they would sacrifice their own happiness and even their life for each other. I also love how much they roast each other and have such funny sarcastic sassy banter. Them being sarcastic to each other is some of my favourite scenes.

So this weeks topic is books I was told that I would love and should read. While I was thinking about the books I have been recommended I realised that a lot of them were from my sisters, who basically told me to read it so they could fangirl with me!

So these are the books my sisters have recommended:

The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare – they basically told me to read all the shadowhunter books because they knew I would love them. And I do, TID is definitely my favourite though!

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell – I don’t usually read contemporary books but my sister kept insisting I would love it and you know what I really did! I’ve reread it three times since.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas – my sister was obsessed and so of course I had to see what the fuss was about lol

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi – another series my sister basically shoved in my face insisting I read it. I’ve read the first two so far and although I wasn’t a fan of the first book I did enjoy the second a lot more so I will be continuing it

Also thought I would share some that have been recommended by fellow book bloggers and just generally on bookstagram:

The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty – I wasn’t sure whether I would like this book but @violettereads said it was amazing and if you know me well…you know that these books have been my obsession for the past year!

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon – another one I kept seeing on bookstagram and @fictiontea kept saying it’s amazing so I thought I would pick them up and I really loved it!

So these are some of my fave books that have been recommended to me!

Have you had a book recommended to you and completely fallen in love with it?

Friday Favourites – Magic Systems

This is hosted by Something of the Book who created this tag out of a love for lists. There are different topics for us all to be able to take part and you can find the prompts here.

I love fantasy worlds with their own magic systems! They’re all so different and I love seeing the different spins to how they use magic in these worlds! So these are some of my favourite magic systems:

1 A Darker Shade of Magic – I love how there’s an antari in each London and only they can travel between the Londons.

2 The Grisha Trilogy – The whole magic system is so great! I always found the way the system works so interesting and how it combines science.

3 Harry Potter – Okay so of course I had to include this! Being a wizard and attending Hogwarts was all I wanted to do as a kid…admit you all waited for your Hogwarts letter too!

4 Shadowhunters – I love how they use runes to enhance different abilities and I think it would be so useful to be able to do this!

5 The Daevabad Trilogy – The jinns have different abilities and some are more powerful than others. From being able to conjure fire to being able to shape shift! Though Nahri’s abilities are my favourite, she can pick up any language instantly and be able to heal herself and others.

6 The Lunar Chronicles – The Lunars powers are quite terrifying to be honest but I still love it!

So these are some of my favourite magic systems! What magic systems do you love?

Top 5 Wednesday – Books You Thought You Would Hate But Ended Up Loving

Hey booknerds! It’s another Top 5 Wednesday post! This is hosted by Sam over on Thoughts on Tomes where you share you top 5 for the chosen topic for that week. You can check out each weeks topic over on Goodreads.

As the saying goes, never judge a book by it’s cover. And well I’m really glad I didn’t get put off by books that didn’t look or sound like my kind of thing. Some of these I was basically forced to read by my sisters as they loved it and needed someone to fangirl with!

So these are the books I am glad I gave a chance to because I loved them all!

1 Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell – the first contemporary book I read because my sister loved it and told me I HAD to read it. And yes, I completely fell in love and it’s what convinced me to try reading more contemporary books.

2 Light Years by Kass Morgan – the most recent book I gave a chance to and loved. I was a little put off by the cover but several bloggers said they loved it and I had gotten the arc in an illumicrate box so I thought I may as well give it a go and yup, I need the sequel already!

3 The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh – I don’t typically read romance but a retelling of Arabian nights is what swayed me and Shazi and Khalid are my OTP and I completely fell in love!

4 The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer – thank goodness my sister forced me to read Cinder because OMG this is one of my favourite series ever!

5 The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare – the weird covers of TMI had put me off reading any of these books and while TMI is not a favourite, TID most certainly is! I adored this trilogy!

So these are books that I thought I would hate but ended up loving! Some of these have actually become some of my all time favourite books!
Is there a book that you’re glad you gave a chance to?
