Characters I Don’t Like But Everyone Else Seems To Love

Hey booknerds! So today I want to talk about characters that everyone seems to love but I just…don’t. Some I’m just indifferent about and some I really cannot stand…at all.

So I am going to share the ones that I really don’t understand why people love them. And they will go from ones that I am indifferent to, to the ones I hate most of all.

If I mention a character you love just remember this is my opinion and you have yours!

1 Warden from The Bone Season – I mean he’s kind of pointless aside from introducing Paige to the world of rephaites and also being her love interest. I also do not ship Paige and Warden and honestly don’t understand the appeal.

2 Dante from Legendary – He’s really good looking and mysterious…that’s about it? I didn’t understand why Tella would be so attracted to him especially when he gets in her way and distracts her more than helping her.

3 Dara from The City of Brass – He’s condescending, acts superior and prejudiced and I honestly don’t understand why people love him. He ignores what Nahri wants and makes a huge mess of things but I see a redemption arc coming for him so I hope he gets better.

4 Carden from The Cruel Prince – He is a bully and his relationship with Jude is toxic as hell. Why does everyone love him?!

5 Jace from The Mortal Instruments – I found him really annoying and was very disappointed in finding out that he is a Herondale. How can he be a descendant of Will?!

6 Clary from The Mortal Instruments – Another character from this series who was so irritating that I wanted to skip over her PoV chapters. Like please shut up, you’ve been a shadowhunter for 5 minutes, you do not know everything!

7 Rowan from Throne of Glass – He grew on me a little as we see more of him but he’s still very meh. I’m not a fan of macho alpha males.

8 Aelin from Throne of Glass – My dislike for her grew more and more as her story progresses. She becomes so annoying that I would just want to role my eyes reading her PoV.

9 Feyre from ACOTAR – I did not like her from the very beginning but then I struggled through most of the first book too. She gets worse as the story progresses. By ACOFAS I am so done with her nonsense.

10 Rhysand from ACOTAR – Let me say it loudly, he is problematic as hell and his and Feyre’s relationship is also very problematic and kinda toxic too. Why does everyone love him?! After ACOFAS I literally do not want to see or hear from either of these two again. Please for the love of God do not let them be in the spin off series.

It’s okay I will give you time to digest what you just read. I know, I know, how could I talk about your faves like that. It’s okay, you can still love them.

But if you also don’t like any of these characters, do let me know so that I don’t feel all alone!

And let me know what characters you don’t like but everyone else loves!

Top 10 Tuesday

Top 10 Tuesday – Unpopular Bookish Opinions

Hey booknerds! I’m taking part in another week of Top Ten Tuesday!

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. You can find more information here

So these are my unpopular bookish opinions and well…don’t hate me because I know that a lot of you love these but I just don’t. Sorry!

1 I cannot stand Feyre and Rhysand from ACOTAR. I never liked Feyre and well, Rhysand’s character was problematic from the beginning. By the time I read ACOFAS I could not stand them AT ALL! Like seriously I do not want to see them again in any future books. Just let them go have babies and play happy families somewhere far away.

2 I am also not a fan of Rowan and Aelin from Throne of Glass. While I don’t hate them I still don’t see why everyone loves them so much, especially Rowan. He’s so meh. I think I just cannot stand overprotective, overly jealous, macho alpha males.

3 On the other hand I do love Chaol from Throne of Glass and I feel like he doesn’t deserve the hate he gets. I really liked his character and his bromance with Dorian and I really loved Tower of Dawn, even though it felt more like Yrene’s story than his.

4 I am not a fan of John Green books. I just cannot get into them at all and by this popint I’ve given up even trying.

5 Another popular character that I don’t like is Carden. I especially do not like that him and Jude are meant to be love interests because he has bullied her for so long and why? Oh because he liked her. Urm hell no! That is not okay!

6 I have no interest in reading or watching Game of Thrones. That’s all you get from me.

7 I also have no interest in reading or watching Outlander. I mean I tried to watch a couple episodes but it was so violent and so much sexual assault that I just couldn’t stomach it, no matter how interesting the storyline is.

8 Deckled edges look pretty but are an actual nightmare when you try and read the actual book.

9 Snape got the redemption arc that Draco deserved. I’m still salty about Harry naming his kid after him.

10 And the last one, I did not enjoy The Night Circus. I really struggled to get into it, I found the writing confusing and I got pretty bored reading it.

So there you have it! My unpopular bookish opinions!

Share yours with me in the comments and you can of course disagree with mine and others but please be polite and respectful of each other!

Hyped Books I Didn’t Love

So this post is probably full of unpopular opinions as I know many of you loves these books but I just…didn’t. Some are books that I hope will get better as the series progresses, some were books that disappointed me as I thought I would love it.

So here are books I didn’t love:

1 Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor – the story itself was quite intriguing but I just didn’t like how slowly the story progressed and the writing style. I got bored and forced myself to read to the end of the first book and then just gave up

2 Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor – I hadn’t planned on reading this but everyone kept telling me I would love it so I thought I would try but again I just didn’t get on with the writing style. Though the story itself was intriguing I just wished more actually happened in the book.

3 Nevernight by Jay Kristoff – I mean the book is okay but I just don’t love it. I don’t know if it’s the footnotes that put me off or the story was slow at the beginning but it took me ages to get through the book.

4 A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas – I cannot explain how much I did not like this book.

5 Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi – I really struggled to get through this book but then I found that the books actually get better

6 Vengeful by V.E. Schwab – I absolutely adored Vicious but I didn’t enjoy this book as much I felt like the story dragged too much in the first half especially

7 The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare – this series was such a chore to read. By the end I was only here for Malec. Which is strange because I adore The Infernal Devices!

8 King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo – I was so disappointed by this book. I was expecting Six of Crows level of epicness and it just…wasn’t

9 Legendary by Stephanie Garber – having loved Caraval I was hoping this would be just as great but I just didn’t enjoy it much

10 The Cruel Prince – a book that I was actually struggling to get through but the ending saved it.

So there you have it, books that have been really hyped but I just didn’t love. These are just my opinions and if you loved them then I’m glad you did!

Are there any hyped books that you didn’t love?

Top 5 Wednesdays

Top 5 Wednesday – Most Disappointing Reads of 2018

Hey booknerds! It’s another Top 5 Wednesday post! This is hosted by Sam over on Thoughts on Tomes where you share you top 5 for the chosen topic for that week. You can check out each weeks topic over on Goodreads.

This weeks topic is my most disappointing reads of 2018.

There’s always books that don’t live up to our expectations and I always feel so sad when they don’t. These are the books I was most disappointed by are:

1 Sky in the Deep – I know everyone seems to love this book but I just couldn’t get into it. I felt like nothing really happened in the book and I was a bit bored.

2 The Surface Breaks – I got bored reading this book and just ended up skim reading most of it

3 To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before – I actually preferred the film than the book. Especially didn’t like Kavinsky in the book

4 The Caged Queen – After reading The Last Namsara I was really looking forward to reading this but I didn’t enjoy this as much as the first book. I think it was because I didn’t find the main character as interesting.

5 Love, Hate and Other Filters – man this book made me so mad. The Muslim rep was so bad that I still get angry thinking about this book even though I read it a year ago. Seriously do not read this book if you’re looking for Muslim rep.

What books were you disappointed by in 2018?

Top 5 Wednesday – Hyped 2019 Releases You Don’t Care About

Hey booknerds! It’s another Top 5 Wednesday post! This is hosted by Sam over on Thoughts on Tomes where you share you top 5 for the chosen topic for that week. You can check out each weeks topic over on Goodreads.

This weeks topic is hyped 2019 releases I don’t care about.

There are so many amazing books being released this year and there’s some that I have been hearing about since last year but they just don’t appeal to me at all.

1 A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Bridget Kemmerer – I just don’t want to read any more beauty and the beast retellings. Can we get retellings of other stories please.

2 The Wicked King by Holly Black – I mean I did like The Cruel Prince but I didn’t love it so I’m not dying to read this.

3 Slayer by Kiersten White – I never really watched Buffy so I’m not that excited about reading this either

4 The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi – I didn’t like The Star Touched Queen that much so I’m not sure about reading this either

5 Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte – I don’t know why but it just doesn’t appeal to me

Is there any books coming out that everyone seems to be talking about but they just don’t appeal to you?
