Top 5 Wednesday – Spring Reads

There are a lot of books I want to read. My tbr pile is actually ridiculous! But these are ones I will definitely get to in the next couple months. Especially as a few are netgalley arcs that I really need to review soon.

1 Nocturna by Maya Motayne – this sounds really interesting and I’m hoping to read it next month

2 The Candle and the Flame by Nafiza Azad – this sounds AMAZING! It’s got Muslim rep and jinns and that’s basically all I need to pick up this book!

3 Stepsister by Jennifer Donnelly – I just got accepted for this on netgalley and it sounds really good.

4 We Hunt The Flame by Hafsah Faizal – I have been wanting to read this book since it was announced! I cannot wait for it to release in May!

5 The Weight of our Sky by Hanna Alkaf – I bought this as soon as it released but I still haven’t read it yet so I am planning on reading it in April

So these are the books I definitely want to read in the next few months. Hopefully I will get to them. Though who knows, I’m a mood reader so it depends on my mood if I feel like picking them up. This is why Obsidio and Queen of Air and Darkness still hasn’t been read!

Top 5 Wednesdays – Characters That Embody Your Hogwarts House

As I’m a Hufflepuff I’m going to share characters that I think would be in the same house as me.

1 Cath from Fangirl – she is obviously a Hufflepuff!

2 Jane from Pride and Prejudice –I think she’s the poster girl for Hufflepuffs

3 Wylan Van Eck from Six of Crows – he may make explosives but he’s a cinnamon roll and is most definitely a Hufflepuff

4 August from This Savage Song – yes I know, he’s technically a “monster” but he has a better sense of justice and doing what’s right than some of the humans in the story.

5 Alizayd from The City of Brass – okay so he may also be a Gryffindor because he’s so reckless but hear me out, he’s loyal and always fights for justice and that makes him a Hufflepuff!

So these are some of the characters that I think are Hufflepuffs.

Top 5 Wednesdays – Favourite SFF Creatures

I adore so many creatures that appear in fantasy and science fiction books that it was hard to narrow down my favourites! But these are some of the ones I love most.

1 Dragons – okay so this was a no brainer. I adore dragons! If there could be one creature that I wish was real it would be dragons. From Toothless to Smaug, they’re all amazing!

2 Pegasus – ever since I watched Disney’s Hercules as a kid I fell in love with Pegasus and I also love Blackjack from the Percy Jackson series!

3 Phoenix – they’re so beautiful and amazing and I would love to have one for my own

4 Hippogriff – I would love to ride Buckbeak! Plus they are so majestic!

5 Hippocampus – I first saw them in the Percy Jackson books and I loved them! They’re what Percy’s brother called fish ponies!

These are some of my favourites! And yes several are from Greek mythology, what can I say, it’s some of my favourite myths! Let me know which are yours!

Top 5 Wednesday – Fictional Places You’d Take a Date To

There are so many fictional places in books that sound so beautiful and magical and I would love to go there and they would be amazing places to go on a date with my husband. So these are the places that I think me and my husband would have great fun on a date.

1 The Shire from The Lord of the Rings – my husband loves the outdoors so I think he would love the beautiful greenery of the shire

2 Night Court from ACOTAR – So as much as I hate the high lord there I still can’t deny that the night court would a wonderful place to go on a date

3 Artemisia from The Lunar Chronicles – it is always described so beautifully with a wonderful view of earth that I know it would be a great date to go there and explore!

4 Red London from A Darker Shade of Magic – this would be a great place to go exploring and discovering new things

5 Daevabad from The City of Brass – my husband is OBSESSED with jinns so yup this is the perfect date for him. I doubt he would ever want to leave to be honest. Yup we would have to move there.

Top 5 Wednesdays – Independent Ladies

There are some amazing female characters that I love especially as they don’t let the male lead/romantic interest stop them from achieving their goals. I want to share some underrated female characters that I love but that don’t always get the love they deserve. Also I may have cheated slightly.

1 Nahri from The City of Brass – I adore Nahri so much! She has not allowed her feelings for either of the male characters dictate what she does. She is a badass and sassy and smart and does what is best for the people she lives with. She suffers so much but it only makes her stronger. I cannot wait to see more of her.

2 Mariko from Flame in the Mist – Her character arc is so great! She is smart and is great at strategy. Although she has romantic interests, she doesn’t let that sway her decisions.

3 Nomi & Serena from Grace and Fury – They both have to deal with so much and out of their comfort zones and they both rise to the occasion. They develop so much throughout the book and I loved seeing how much they grow in strength and becoming confident within themselves.

4 Amani & Shahrzad from Rebel of the Sands – Although they both have a love interest; the romance is minimum, and they don’t actually get to spend much time with them either. What I love most is their friendship and how they support and help each other.

5 Attia from Blood and Sand – She is a prisoner and made into a slave, yet she fights and doesn’t let everything that has happened to her defeat her or make her lose hope. She doesn’t allow her feelings prevent her from continuing to get justice for her family and everyone that she lost.

So these are some of my favourite underrated independent ladies!
