Top 10 Tuesday

Top 10 Tuesday – Unpopular Bookish Opinions

Hey booknerds! I’m taking part in another week of Top Ten Tuesday!

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. You can find more information here

So these are my unpopular bookish opinions and well…don’t hate me because I know that a lot of you love these but I just don’t. Sorry!

1 I cannot stand Feyre and Rhysand from ACOTAR. I never liked Feyre and well, Rhysand’s character was problematic from the beginning. By the time I read ACOFAS I could not stand them AT ALL! Like seriously I do not want to see them again in any future books. Just let them go have babies and play happy families somewhere far away.

2 I am also not a fan of Rowan and Aelin from Throne of Glass. While I don’t hate them I still don’t see why everyone loves them so much, especially Rowan. He’s so meh. I think I just cannot stand overprotective, overly jealous, macho alpha males.

3 On the other hand I do love Chaol from Throne of Glass and I feel like he doesn’t deserve the hate he gets. I really liked his character and his bromance with Dorian and I really loved Tower of Dawn, even though it felt more like Yrene’s story than his.

4 I am not a fan of John Green books. I just cannot get into them at all and by this popint I’ve given up even trying.

5 Another popular character that I don’t like is Carden. I especially do not like that him and Jude are meant to be love interests because he has bullied her for so long and why? Oh because he liked her. Urm hell no! That is not okay!

6 I have no interest in reading or watching Game of Thrones. That’s all you get from me.

7 I also have no interest in reading or watching Outlander. I mean I tried to watch a couple episodes but it was so violent and so much sexual assault that I just couldn’t stomach it, no matter how interesting the storyline is.

8 Deckled edges look pretty but are an actual nightmare when you try and read the actual book.

9 Snape got the redemption arc that Draco deserved. I’m still salty about Harry naming his kid after him.

10 And the last one, I did not enjoy The Night Circus. I really struggled to get into it, I found the writing confusing and I got pretty bored reading it.

So there you have it! My unpopular bookish opinions!

Share yours with me in the comments and you can of course disagree with mine and others but please be polite and respectful of each other!

Top 5 Wednesdays

T5W – Books You Like With Tropes You Usually Hate

Hey booknerds! It’s another Top 5 Wednesday post! This is hosted by Sam over on Thoughts on Tomes where you share you top 5 for the chosen topic for that week. You can check out each weeks topic over on Goodreads.

This weeks topic is books you like with tropes you usually hate

So this is an interesting topic and made me really think about the books I love but still have tropes that irritate me! So these are the ones that came to mind:

1 The Wrath and the Dawn – this book has instalove which I usually hate and always makes me not like the book as much but this book is amazing and I am so here for Khalid and Shahrzad!

2 The Infernal Devices – oh how I hate love triangles! But if you’ve read this trilogy you know that there’s no way to actually hate this one! Both Jem and Will are amazing and I literally wanted both of them to be happy! It’s the only love triangle I love!

3 ACOTAR – a beautiful girl who thinks she’s plain, urgh! I hate seeing this because you can clearly tell she is not in fact plain and generally acts really annoying, which Feyre does. I still love the trilogy but I’m not a fan of Feyre.

4 The Mortal Instruments – Unqualified protagonist succeeding where qualified side characters can’t. OMG Clary annoys me throughout this series because she is forever acting like she knows everything about shadowhunters after becoming one for literally 5 minutes.

5 Throne of Glass – They purred. Not sure if this is an actual trope but I cannot deal with all the characters purring in SJM books! Someone purrs on practically every other page. It needs to stop!

As you can see there’s plenty of Cassandra Clare and Sarah J Maas books on this list! I love their books but they definitely include tropes I really hate!

What books do you love but have tropes that you hate? Do you like any of these tropes or are you like me and hate them?

Illumicrate Starfall Box Unboxing

Hey booknerds! I have an unboxing for you today! I wanted to share the amazing Starfall Special Edition Box from Illumicrate.

If you didn’t know, Illumicrate is a UK based quarterly book subscription box. I love their boxes so much and you should all go check them out!

This box was a special edition one off box that they created for the release of A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas. This box had 12 items and the book and I cannot even begin to choose a favourite because they’re all amazing items!

So lets get to the unboxing!

So the first item in the box was a Prythian map inspired book sleeve made by Sparrow and Wolf.

The second item is a gorgeous tote bag with artwork designed by Ink and Wonder designs.

They also included a beautiful smelling lip balm. It’s named Truth Teller after Azriel’s magic knife. It smells of rose petals and almond jam and is a gorgeous red colour.

mug and shelfie

The fourth item is an enamel mug! I love getting bookish mugs and this has artwork of Feyre and Rhysand by Charlie Bowater

I was so happy that a candle was included as I am obsessed with candles and this two layered, amazing smelling Starfall candle was made by Two Candle Thieves.

There was also an Illyrian wingspan mirror enamel necklace made by Mirror Image Accessories.

Monolima designed some amazing tarot card style cards of the Inner Circle!

A beautiful art print of Feyre and Rhysand was also included. This was designed by Kat Adara.

Another item was a Stars Eternal and Night Triumphant enamel pin set. I love getting pins made by Fable and Black they’re always amazing

Keeper of the Suns designed an amazing Starfall deck of cards which has characters from the ACOTAR series on them.

scarf and cards

Another item is a summer scarf which is perfect for me as I’m always cold even in summer! This has artwork of the court symbols designed by Evannave.

And lastly Illumicrate designed socks with Feyre’s tattoo on them. I love them!

After including all these items they also included ACOFAS which has been hand stamped with an exclusive ink stamp, a note from Sarah J Maas and an exclusive metal bookmark.

So that’s everything included in the box! And yes, it was a lot and I am so glad I was able to get my hands on this box! Illumicrate boxes just keep getting better and better and I cannot wait to see what box they will make next. The May Hidden Talents box will be shipping soon and I cannot wait to see what they’ve included this time!

Did you get this box? What did you think? What was your favourite item? Do let me know in the comments!
