Books with Healers

This weeks prompt for The Empire of Gold readalong and photo challenge is to share books with healers! So here are some of my favourite books with healers/doctors.

The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty – Of course we have to talk about Nahri and the family of healers she comes from. Magical abilities to not only heal themselves but also others serves Nahri really well on several occasions throughout the trilogy. My review is here

The Trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan – How could I not mention the Greek God Apollo, or as he is better known as, Lester. While his healing abilities are somewhat restricted in this series his kids are of course the Camps best healers, including Will.

Chilling Effect by Valerie Valdes – Pink who is one of Eva’s closest friends and the doctor on the ship. She ensures that everyone survives the dangerous missions they have to go on throughout the book.

Pride, Prejudice and Other Flavours by Sonali Dev – Trisha who is our Elizabeth in the story, is a genius neurosurgeon in this story. She takes great pride in her ability to help people.

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir – Laia is taught by her pops to heal wounds and be a midwife for women in labour. She is able to use these skills many times in the story.

Books I Want From The Villains Point Of View

I used to always root for the heroes when I read books but these YA books that I’ve been reading lately have me wanting to know more about the villains or straight up just rooting for them!

So I thought I would write about it on here as I would love to know all of your views!

Villains are being written in more complex and intriguing ways that makes me so interested in learning about them. And we’ve been getting some really great origin stories for fairy tale villains too! So it’s made me want to see how these villains and how they became who we see in the books!

So here are some villains I would love a point of view from:

The Darkling from the Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo

It’s no secret that I am completely and entirely in love with the Darkling. I mean you know aside from him being a mass murderer. Anyways I just want more Darkling okay?! I want to know his story from when he was a little boy to all those years he lived growing more and powerful and how he became the man that we met in Shadow and Bone. He deserves his own book!

Sebastian Morganstern from TMI by Cassandra Clare

Look he had no chance in life. His dad completely screwed him over and from before he was even born. Yet he was still a really interesting villain and I want to know what it was like for him growing up isolated and alone.

Luke Castellen from Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan

I mean yes, he did make some really bad decisions which led to people dying but I still couldn’t help but feel for him. He has such a tragic story and in the end he ended up saving everyone. So I would love to read more about his life before he met Percy and how he ended up the boy we meet. I would also love to see the series from his point of view.

Bellatrix LeStrange from Harry Potter by JK Rowling

She is terrifying but I still love her! She is such an interesting character and I think it would be so interesting to see things from her point of view. Especially as we would be able to see a lot more of the death eaters and how they functioned.

The Jackal from Red Rising by Pierce Brown

Another villain who was so interesting to read about. Especially as he was the twin of one of the heroines. How did they become so different? I just want to know more about him. It would especially be interesting to read red rising from his point of view.

The Commandant from An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

She is absolutely terrifying and I still cannot get over how much she hated her own son. But I do want to know more about her. I want to know who Elias’s father is, I want to know how she became so terrifying and I would love to see more about her and Laia’s mother.

So here are the villains I would love to see a point of view from or even their own book!

National Cat Day – Books That Feature Cats

Today is national cat day in the US and as I am a crazy cat lady and proud and as I love books that have cats in them I thought I would share some of the books with you all. Even though it’s a US holiday (in the UK national cat day is in August) I just need any excuse to talk about books and cats.

Books. Cats. Life is good.

I found that having a cat greatly increased in love for these books especially ones that discuss the relationship of a cat and their owner. I love that these books have incorporated cats into the story! Most of these I’ve read or they are on my tbr and I definitely recommend them all and they range from fantast to sci-fi to contemporary fiction.

So these are the books I have either read or will read and highly recommend them all:

IMG_7109

1 The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa – I read this back in January and I still think about it. It was a heart warming and heart breaking book. It really made me appreciate my cat even more and cherish the relationship I have him. I cried so much reading this book but still I highly recommend reading this.

2 A Friend Like Ben by Julia Romp – I picked this book up initially because of the cat on the cover but it sounds like such a lovely book that talks about the relationship between a child and his cat and how they helped each other so I’m looking forward to reading it

3 A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen – this has become popular book and been made into a film too so I’m looking forward to reading it

jinxed

4 Jinxed by Amy McCulloch – I loved this book! It’s a wonderful blend of sci-fi and dystopia where customisable smart pets are a reality and the baku of the main character is a cat!

5 Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling – Obviously Crookshanks wasn’t a main character but their pets did have an important role in the trios lives.

6 The Guest Cat by Takashi Hiraide – this is another book high on my tbr as it sounds like a book that will be like The Travelling Cat Chronicles. I am really looking forward to reading it

7 The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis – One of my favourite childhood books and of course we have Aslan who is basically a big cat. I love Lucy’s relationship with him.

8 I Am A Cat by Natsumi Soseki – another book high on my tbr although I feel like this book may be a sad book I’m hoping I will still enjoy it.

IMG_6909

9 If Cats Disappeared From The World by Genki Kawamura – I read this revently and although it had a sad tone there was plenty of humour and very thought provoking

10 Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll – another book from my childhood and I loved the Cheshire cat! He was fun and mysterious and I loved him!

11 The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan – inspired by Egyptian mythology where the Carter and Sadie are protected by Bast who often takes the form of a cat.

12 The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare – Church is found by Jem and taken in, because of some sort of magic Church has a long life and seen in The Mortal Instruments and in The Dark Artifices.

There’s actually plenty more books that have cats, I didn’t realise how many until I started writing this blog post! Let me know if you have read any of these and what you thought!

P.S. My cat, Sherlock, has to be bribed with plenty of treats to take these photos. He’s a total diva! If you want to see more of him, he appears regularly on my bookstagram @thetsundokuchronicles

Do you look out for books with cats in them? Or another animal?

Top 5 Wednesday – Future Classics

Hey booknerds! It’s another Top 5 Wednesday post! This is hosted by Sam over on Thoughts on Tomes where you share you top 5 for the chosen topic for that week. You can check out each weeks topic over on Goodreads.

This weeks topic is Future Classics. Books that I think will stand the test of time.

Okay so this is a really interesting topic! It really made me think about books that have released over recent years and which I think will last past the hype.

So these are the ones I decided on:

Harry Potter series – pretty sure that these will be remembered and read for a very long time! I know I will be passing on my love for these books onto future generations.

Percy Jackson series – I think these will become great children’s classics! They have a great story and such amazing diversity that I think many, many kids will be able to relate to.

The Hate U Give – So this book has become wildly popular and rightly so! It’s a book that’s much needed and reflects society and I think we will be hearing about this for a very long time.

His Dark Materials trilogy – This book is still hugely popular 20 years later and I loved these books as a kid.

The Hunger Games trilogy – I think these books will still be read in many years times and people will be able to relate to and be inspired by them.

So these are the top 5 books I think will become future classics!

Do you agree with any of these? What books do you think will become future classics? Let me know in the comments!

Unboxings

Percy Jackson Nerdy Post Box Unboxing

Hey booknerds! So this is another Nerdy Post box unboxing! This was a special one off box based on Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series. As soon as I heard them announce the box I knew I had to buy it! I adore this series and I can never find much merch for it.

I absolutely love this box and I am so glad I was able to buy it. Me and my sisters all bought a box and the nerdy post team were kind enough to combine the boxes so that I wouldn’t have to pay multiple shipping.

So lets get to the unboxing!

So the first item in the box was a beautiful art print with the quote: If my life is going to mean anything, I have to live it myself.

The next item was an iron on patch which says Camp-Half Blood!

A mini print inspired by Grover Underwood with the quote: Remake the wild a little at a time. I love it so much especially as Grover is so underrated.

A second mini print inspired by Annabeth Chase and one of my favourite characters! The quote says: Even strength must bow to wisdom sometimes. This is also one of my favourite quotes!

They also included an enamel pin of Blackjack which says Hey boss. Blackjack is Percy’s Pegasus and I love it!

There was a double sided bookmark which I love getting in these boxes! One side says: Look I didn’t want to be a half blood. And the other side says: Seaweed Brain. I love this nickname that Annabeth gives Percy.

There was also a beautiful booksleeve which shows the hippocampi or as Tyson calls them, Fish Ponies!

There was a sticker which says: I can do this, probably. I relate to this quote so much!

As this was the ultimate they also included a candle which is called Ol’ Barnacle Beard which was made by My Wick of Tea. It smells amazing!

The last item was a badge. In my photo you can see all 3 variations as I ordered 4 boxes (for my sisters) They tell you who your godly parent and which cabin you belong in. You could have gotten: Poseidon, Athena or Hades. I still haven’t decided which I want to keep and which to let my sisters fight it out over!

pjo pins

So that’s everything included in the box! I loved this box so much! I adore the Percy Jackson series and I am so happy to finally have amazing merch for these books!

There was also a t-shirt which had a Nico Di Angelo quote and I wish I could have gotten that too.

Did you get the box? What was your favourite item?
