Top 5 Wednesdays

Top 5 Wednesday – Hyped 2019 Releases You Don’t Care About

Hey booknerds! It’s another Top 5 Wednesday post! This is hosted by Sam over on Thoughts on Tomes where you share you top 5 for the chosen topic for that week. You can check out each weeks topic over on Goodreads.

This weeks topic is hyped 2019 releases I don’t care about.

There are so many amazing books being released this year and there’s some that I have been hearing about since last year but they just don’t appeal to me at all.

1 A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Bridget Kemmerer – I just don’t want to read any more beauty and the beast retellings. Can we get retellings of other stories please.

2 The Wicked King by Holly Black – I mean I did like The Cruel Prince but I didn’t love it so I’m not dying to read this.

3 Slayer by Kiersten White – I never really watched Buffy so I’m not that excited about reading this either

4 The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi – I didn’t like The Star Touched Queen that much so I’m not sure about reading this either

5 Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte – I don’t know why but it just doesn’t appeal to me

Is there any books coming out that everyone seems to be talking about but they just don’t appeal to you?

Unboxings

Illumicrate Unboxing – Clever Ruse November Box

Hey booknerds! I have an unboxing for you today! This is the Illumicrate November box and the theme was Clever Ruse. As usual the box was amazing and I loved all the items! Plus this month they included two books as it was their anniversary box! So lets get to the unboxing.

The first item included was a woodmark inspired by Warcross. I love the design and the quote! The artwork is by @chattynora

They also included a pin banner inspired by The Night Circus, Caraval and all things Circus! I love that it looks like a circus top! As you can see I have already filled it with all of my pins! It was designed by illumicrate themselves!

They included some unique items this month and one of them was this drink cosy inspired by To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. I really love the artwork which is designed by @giacatam

I adore this item that was included, a Throne of Glass inspired necklace. It’s so beautiful and designed by @fableandblack And of course I just had to have my cat, Sherlock, model the necklace for me!

They also included an exclusive edition of Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce. I have heard such great things about this series and this is the perfect excuse to start reading!

The last thing included is a Mulan inspired scarf which has some beautiful artwork on it. The artwork is by Feifei Ruan. It’s absolutely stunning!

The book included in this months box was Empress of all Seasons by Emiko Jean. This edition has an exclusive cover and sprayed pages. It sounds like such a great story and I’m super excited to read it!

The extras that were included in this months box are a bookmark inspired by The Poppy War and a This Mortal Coil DNA helix

So that’s everything in this months box! I loved everything and I am so excited for the Saints and Scars box and their next quarterly box!

Monthly Wrap Up

November Monthly Wrap Up

This has been a really busy month for me and with my health not being great either, it’s taken a toll on my reading. I haven’t had the best reading month in terms of new books that I’ve read but I have reread some of my absolute favourites so I think it’s still a win!

I think the fact that I have been feeling like I’m in a slump hasn’t helped my reading experience either. I have ended up watching tv and not feeling like picking up a book for days at a time. Although I think I’m slowly starting to come out of that!

But back to the books I read this month:

IMG_8898

1 Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa – I really enjoyed this book! It was different and I loved the main character! You can read my full spoiler free review here

2 The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty – I reread this book and I loved it even more the second time around! This is my favourite book this year! You can read my review here

3 Fawkes by Nadine Brandes – I really enjoyed reading this! It’s historical fiction and tells the story of the gunpowder plot through Guy Fawkes son and there’s magic! I really loved seeing the historical references throughout the story too.

4 The Caged Queen by Kristen Ciccarelli – I was a bit disappointed by this especially as I absolutely loved The Last Namsara. I think it’s because I didn’t love the main character in this so I kept wanting to see Asha and Torwin instead.

5 The Secret Seven by Enid Blyton – gahhh I cannot explain how much I loved these books as a kid and this is the first time I reread it as an adult and it was so nostalgic! I still really enjoyed it!

6 Revenger by Alastair Reynolds – I DNFd this book. 100 pages in and I still was confused by the terminology and what was going on.

7 A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi – this book was a hit and miss for me. I loved the way she showed the islamophobia but aside from that I did have some issues with the Muslim rep (I felt it was more her culture rep which isn’t the same thing) and I couldn’t relate to Shirin much outside of her having to deal with living as a Muslim post 9/11

8 Enchantee by Gita Trelease – another historical fiction book with magic! This time set in France during the time of Marie Antoinette. I actually enjoyed this book a lot and I’m already looking forward to the sequel (even though this one isn’t out until January). Review to come soon!

9 Light Years by Kass Morgan – I thought I wouldn’t enjoy this book, I don’t know why, maybe the cover? But I did end up enjoying it a lot! I am looking forward to reading the sequel especially after that cliffhanger ending!

10 Legendary by Stephanie Garber – I didn’t enjoy this one as much as Caraval but it still had that magic feel and the, what’s actually happening? Can you trust what you’ve been told? So I’m still looking forward to reading Finale especially as I feel as I’m more invested in Scarlet and Julian’s story than I am in Tella’s.

11 The Reckoning of Noah Shaw by Michelle Hodkin – after the ending of book one I couldn’t wait to read this and although we got a lot of answers we were also left with a lot of questions! And of course now I need the last book to know what will happen!

12 The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty – yes I did read this for a third time this month! I love it that much! And I highly recommend the audiobook! Seriously if you haven’t read this book then you need to go pick it up now!

13 I-Intimacy by Ismail Shaikh – I have spent several months reading this book slowly to really benefit from it. It’s a book that helps you build the best marriage from an Islamic perspective. It’s written really well including everyday problems couples face today and although it does use Islamic teachings it’s not preachy and he uses real life examples that he’s dealt with or has helped couples deal with. Highly recommend this book. Review to come soon!

14 The Extinction Trials Exile by S.M Wilson – wow I loved this book as much as the first! It’s fast paced and it kept me reading well into the night! So excited for the last book in this series!

15 Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo – I reread this after having read it back in 2016 and I forgot how much I loved it! I cannot wait to continue my reread for this series!

I also wrote the review for Forest of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao (which I read in October). I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would! You can read my spoiler free review here

So these are all the books I read this month! What book was your favourite book this month? Did you find any new favourites? Or did you DNF any books?

Booksish Discussions

My most anticipated releases of 2019

Hey booknerds! 2018 is almost over! I can’t believe that this year is already over! I have had a really great reading year and I’ve found some new favourite books! Which of course has meant that I have been waiting for many sequels or books by my favourite authors!

So I wanted to share some of the books I cannot wait to release next year!

1 The Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty – The City of Brass has fast become one of my absolute favourite books ever! I have already read it three times and I’m pretty sure I will read it again before this book is released. I just need to know that the cinnamon roll that is AliZayd is okay!

2 Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluddin – technically I have already read this book but it’s not released in the UK until March 2019 so I wanted to include it because I absolutely loved this book! Modern Pride and Prejudice retelling with Muslim characters. I fangirled so much over this book!

3 On The Come Up by Angie Thomas – The Hate U Give is amazing so I’m really looking forward to reading this book!

4 King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo – I cannot wait to be back in the grishaverse! I love Nikolai so I cannot wait to read his story!

5 It’s Not About the Burqa by Mariam – ever since I heard about this book I have been so interested in reading it. It’s something that affects me in my daily life so I can’t wait to see what they include.

6 Dark Age by Pierce Brown – this is the series that will destroy me and I love it!

7 Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen McManus – I loved One of us is Lying so I’m really looking forward to this! I’ve already heard such great things!

8 Queen of Ruin by Tracy Banghart – after that cliffhanger ending of Grace and Fury I have been dying for the sequel! I seriously cannot wait for this book to be released even though it won’t be out until the summer.

9 The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh – I have loved everything that Renee has written so I cannot wait to read this! I’m expecting to meet a new book boyfriend too.

10 Kick the Moon by Muhammad Khan – I read I am Thunder at the beginning of the year and I really enjoyed it so I’m looking forward to his next book too.

11 Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon – I mean who isn’t excited about this book? I love The Bone Season series so I am hoping I love this just as much. I have heard nothing but amazing things about it.

12 The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare – we finally get a Malec story! They are my faves so I’m really looking forward to reading this!

13 We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal – Probably most anticipated book for next year! I am so excited to see a Muslim woman in niqab be published and everything I’ve read and seen so far tells me I am going to love this book!

So these are the book I absolutely cannot wait to be released next year! Let me know some of yours! I mean my TBR is clearly not big enough (spoiler: it is!) so I can add more books that I should look out for!

Top 10 Tuesday

Top 10 Tuesday – Backlist Books I Want to Read

Hey booknerds! I’m taking part in another week of Top Ten Tuesday!

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. You can find more information here

This weeks post is about backlist books I want to read.

There are so many books that I have on my shelves unread and yet, I continue to buy books. It’s beginning to get out of hand and I seriously need to read the books that have been sitting there for ages. I know there are some great books, but there’s so many books and so little time. I also find that a lot of my backlist books are ebooks. I always seem to overlook these books when I’m deciding what book to read.

But these are the books I really want to get to:

1 And I Darken – I keep hearing amazing things about this book and I won the first in the trilogy in a giveaway so I really want to read it

2 Truthwitch – another book I keep hearing great things about but I still haven’t got to yet

3 Dorothy Must Die – a wizard of oz retelling?! I knew I had to buy it when I saw it but I just haven’t got round to reading it

4 Air Awakens – I know I will love this book but gahhh still haven’t read it!

5 The Queen of the Tearling – I picked this up because the cover looked pretty but I haven’t got round to reading it yet

6 Graceling – yet another book that I have heard amazing things about but I haven’t read yet

7 The Forbidden Wish – this is an Aladdin retelling so I just had to get it. I hope it’s good!

8 Iron Gold – tbh I’m pretty scared to read this book. The Red Rising trilogy was brutal and heart breaking and I’m not sure I’m ready to have my heart broken again

9 Invictus – this is totally my type of book so I’m hoping to read it soon

10 This Mortal Coil – with the release of book 2 this book is now high up on my tbr hopefully I will read it either this month or next

So these are the books that I really want to read soon especially as they have been on my tbr for far too long!

What books have you had on your tbr for far too long?
