Friday Favourites

Friday Favourites – Classic Books

This is hosted by Something of the Book who created this tag out of a love for lists. There are different topics for us all to be able to take part and you can find the prompts here. There isn’t a specific number of favourites so it’s entirely up to you how many you share. You can share your most or least favourites too!

This week are classics that I read years ago and absolutely loved but haven’t read them since. So these are books that I want to reread this year!

1 Black Beauty – I first read this book when I was 10 years old and fell in love! I reread this book at least 5 more times that year but I haven’t read it in so many years and I really want to read it again

2 The Secret Garden – another book I loved as a kid but haven’t read since and really would love to read it again

3 Little Women – I watched the recent three part tv show and fell in love all over again and now I really want to reread the book

4 The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe – this is my favourite book in the series but I haven’t read it in years

5 Pride and Prejudice – this is the only book I have actually reread a couple years ago but with the retellings being published I really want to read it again

So here are some of my favourite classics I want to reread!
Do you like reading classics? Which are your favourites?

Top 5 Wednesdays – Nostalgic Ships

Hey booknerds! It’s another Top 5 Wednesday post! This is hosted by Sam over on Thoughts on Tomes where you share you top 5 for the chosen topic for that week. You can check out each weeks topic over on Goodreads.

This weeks topic is nostalgic ships. Couples that you loved when you were younger.

Okay so a lot of my ships will be from films as most of the books I read when I was younger didn’t really have ships. But these are my favourites because I was totally rooting for them and found them adorable!

1 Ron and Hermione – Romione forever! I have loved these two since I first read about them and loved seeing their relationship develop throughout the books!

2 Anastasia and Dimitri – this was one of my favourite childhood films and these two are just amazing! Anastasia is sassy and fierce and I love how Dimitri develops throughout the film.

3 Elizabeth and Darcy – Pride and Prejudice is my absolute favourite classic and I adore these two! From the socially awkward Darcy to outspoken and confident Lizzie.

4 Lyra Belaqua and Will Parry – I loved these two in the His Dark Materials trilogy and how much they sacrificed, even having to spend their lives separately for the greater good.

5 Thomas O’Malley and Duchess – I know, I know, they’re cats but common! Artistocats is one of my favourite Disney films. You have love how much effort Thomas goes into impressing Duchess and how well he looks after her kids.

So these were my favourite ships when I was younger!

Do comment and tell me which couples you loved when you were younger!

Book Tag

Book Tag: Books I’ll Never Read

So I saw this tag on Tinted Prose Reviews and I thought it would be fun to do!

1 A really hyped book you have no interest in reading

So I know everyone is going crazy over these books but I actually have no interest in reading Strange the Dreamer. I really couldn’t get into Daughter of Smoke and Bone because of the writing style so I doubt I will like this.

2 A series you don’t plan to finish

I really struggled to get through Daughter of Smoke and Bone and I have no interest in continuing the trilogy. I just didn’t find it interesting, at all. Plus the writing style just wasn’t for me it took me forever to get through the book and kept putting it down in between.

3 A classic you’re not interested in

Frankenstein and Dracula are just two of the many I have no interest in reading. They just don’t appeal to me. Classics tend to be a hit or miss for me in general. I either adore the book like Pride and Prejudice or even the thought of picking up a book makes me feel bleugh

4 A genre you’ve never or rarely read

Romance books! I hate it when fantasy or sci-fi books are heavy in the romance so it’s no surprise that I would never actually pick up a romance book. I cannot take reading a whole book about it!

5 A book on your shelves you’ll probably never actually read

Probably Wuthering Heights. I found the book second hand and it had a pretty cover so of course I had to buy it but I doubt I will ever get round to reading it.

Let me know your answers! And if you read this post consider yourself tagged!

Top 5 Wednesdays – Classics I Wish Had Modern Adaptations

Hey booknerds! It’s another Top 5 Wednesday post! This is hosted by Sam over on Thoughts on Tomes where you share you top 5 for the chosen topic for that week. You can check out each weeks topic over on Goodreads.

This weeks topic is classics I wish had modern adaptations.

So these are classics that I love but I don’t’ think have any modern retellings yet and I think it would be really interesting to see modern retellings of these and what would change or stay the same to make the story work.

1 Little Women by Louisa May Alcott – I adore this book and though it seems a really popular book I don’t think I’ve seen a modern adaptation of it

2 The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald – I wonder what this book would be like if it was set in modern times. The addition of social media would definitely add more complexities into the story I think

3 The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett – This story was one of my favourites when I was younger and I would love to see what it would be like in modern day

4 Macbeth by William Shakespeare – This is one of my favourite Shakespeare stories and I would love to see a modern adaptation of it

5 The Time Machine by H.G. Wells – what would the time machine look like if it was created in the modern day? How would things be different? I would love to see it!

So these are the books I chose, let me know what you would want a modern retelling or adaptation of.

If you know any modern adaptations of these then do let me know!

Booksish Discussions

My Favourite Childhood Books

So I’ve been trying to get my little cousins to read more and it got me thinking about all the books I read as a kid and how there was some which were clearly favourites. Books that were read multiple times and I just could not get enough! A lot of the books I read as a kid is books I borrowed from the library and I’m actually really sad that I don’t have my own copies of them. I definitely need to buy them at some point (amongst the other thousands of books I want to buy)!

So I thought I would share some of my all time favourite books with you all!

Of course I have to mention Harry Potter! These books were a huge part of my childhood! From the age of 10 I was well and truly hooked! It has become a huge part of my childhood and I have some great childhood memories about the midnight book releases.

I was also a huge fan of Enid Blyton books as a kid. I loved The Magic Faraway Tree, The Secret Seven and Famous Five. These books I have read countless number of times! I always wanted to be part of a secret group like the secret seven as a kid!

Another book I loved was the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer. This was my first anti-hero story and I loved it! Disney are making the first book into a film which will be released next year and I cannot wait for it!

One of my favourite classics as a kid was Black Beauty. I remember reading this for the first time when I was 11 years old and completely falling in love! I must have read the book about 10 times in year 6!

The Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz was another series I loved. A teenage MI6 agent? Of course I had to read it! The series ended a few years ago but now he’s starting the series again from where it ended and I am so ready to be back in that world!

The Cirque Du Freak series by Darren Shan was another favourite of mine. It had vampires and the story was so complex and interesting.

I adored The Chronicles of Narnia as a kid! My favourites are Prince Caspian and of course The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. Such magical books! I wish I had a wardrobe that took me to a magical land!

So these are some of my absolute favourite childhood books! I always feel like rereading them but I’m scared they won’t live up to my childhood memories. Anyone else feel like that?

Let me know what your favourite childhood books!

Also any books you would recommend for a 10 year old now!
