Books Featuring Cats in the Story – National Cat Day

Today is National Cat Day and if you know me then you know how much I love my cat, Sherlock. So here is a post dedicated to that diva and some of my favourite books with cats in the story. I always love seeing cats in stories they often become some of my favourite aspects of the story.

If you are like me and love seeing cats in the story then here are some recommendations:

Chilling Effect by Valerie Valdes – A found family, space heists and psychic space cats!

The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa – A beautiful story of a journey between a man and his cat.

The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare – Jem adopts Church the cat and he appears in several of the series.

If Cats Disappeared From the World Genki Kawamura – This was an interesting story with lots to think about.

The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan – While Bast is technically an Egyptian God she takes the form of a cat and is the guardian of the MCs.

The Empire of Gold by S.A. Chakraborty – Technically Mishmish is a Shedu but he’s basically a bif cat wings so it counts, right?

Diana and the Island of No Return by Aisha Saeed – Diana’s best friend, Sakina has a snow leopard which in my opinion counts as a cat.

Jinxed by Amy McCulloch – A book where the MC has a baku which is essentially a AI in the form of a cat. Sassy and clever I loved him.

Moonchild by Aisha Bushby – A MG Arabian Nights retelling with a jinn companion who takes the form of a cat

Do tell me what books you loved with cats in the stories! I’m always looking for more recommendations!

Daevabad Characters as Cats

Here is my regular reminder to read The Daevabad trilogy S.A. Chakraborty! It is a trilogy that has become my favourite books of all time and I just cannot get enough of these books and characters.

This post is basically full of cute cat photos which I thought reminded me of each character in the first two books as I don’t want to spoil anyone for the last book.

So here are Daevabad characters as cats!

Nahri: This is the look of a girl who has just conned an arrogant man.

Ali: A little startled but trying his best to look presentable

Muntadhir: Always looking his best

Zaynab: A smart incredible woman who looks amazing no matter what she does

Jamshid: His most defining feature is of course his moustache (couldn’t resist using Sherlock with a moustache for this)

Dara: Looking like his intimidating self here

Lubayd: Just look at his cute self complete in a turban

Aqisa: Looking fierce as always!

Hatset: Looking beautiful and regal complete with a crown

Ghassan: No one mess with him, he will hurt you!

Manizheh: Looking fierce and intimidating as usual

So there we have it, some of the Daevabad characters as cats! I had so much fun looking through all the cat photos to find these! I hope you enjoy the post!

PS. I have lots more Daevabad content which you can find all over on my Daevabad trilogy section

National Cat Day – Books That Feature Cats

Today is national cat day in the US and as I am a crazy cat lady and proud and as I love books that have cats in them I thought I would share some of the books with you all. Even though it’s a US holiday (in the UK national cat day is in August) I just need any excuse to talk about books and cats.

Books. Cats. Life is good.

I found that having a cat greatly increased in love for these books especially ones that discuss the relationship of a cat and their owner. I love that these books have incorporated cats into the story! Most of these I’ve read or they are on my tbr and I definitely recommend them all and they range from fantast to sci-fi to contemporary fiction.

So these are the books I have either read or will read and highly recommend them all:

IMG_7109

1 The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa – I read this back in January and I still think about it. It was a heart warming and heart breaking book. It really made me appreciate my cat even more and cherish the relationship I have him. I cried so much reading this book but still I highly recommend reading this.

2 A Friend Like Ben by Julia Romp – I picked this book up initially because of the cat on the cover but it sounds like such a lovely book that talks about the relationship between a child and his cat and how they helped each other so I’m looking forward to reading it

3 A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen – this has become popular book and been made into a film too so I’m looking forward to reading it

jinxed

4 Jinxed by Amy McCulloch – I loved this book! It’s a wonderful blend of sci-fi and dystopia where customisable smart pets are a reality and the baku of the main character is a cat!

5 Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling – Obviously Crookshanks wasn’t a main character but their pets did have an important role in the trios lives.

6 The Guest Cat by Takashi Hiraide – this is another book high on my tbr as it sounds like a book that will be like The Travelling Cat Chronicles. I am really looking forward to reading it

7 The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis – One of my favourite childhood books and of course we have Aslan who is basically a big cat. I love Lucy’s relationship with him.

8 I Am A Cat by Natsumi Soseki – another book high on my tbr although I feel like this book may be a sad book I’m hoping I will still enjoy it.

IMG_6909

9 If Cats Disappeared From The World by Genki Kawamura – I read this revently and although it had a sad tone there was plenty of humour and very thought provoking

10 Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll – another book from my childhood and I loved the Cheshire cat! He was fun and mysterious and I loved him!

11 The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan – inspired by Egyptian mythology where the Carter and Sadie are protected by Bast who often takes the form of a cat.

12 The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare – Church is found by Jem and taken in, because of some sort of magic Church has a long life and seen in The Mortal Instruments and in The Dark Artifices.

There’s actually plenty more books that have cats, I didn’t realise how many until I started writing this blog post! Let me know if you have read any of these and what you thought!

P.S. My cat, Sherlock, has to be bribed with plenty of treats to take these photos. He’s a total diva! If you want to see more of him, he appears regularly on my bookstagram @thetsundokuchronicles

Do you look out for books with cats in them? Or another animal?
