Characters I Don’t Like But Everyone Else Seems To Love

Hey booknerds! So today I want to talk about characters that everyone seems to love but I just…don’t. Some I’m just indifferent about and some I really cannot stand…at all.

So I am going to share the ones that I really don’t understand why people love them. And they will go from ones that I am indifferent to, to the ones I hate most of all.

If I mention a character you love just remember this is my opinion and you have yours!

1 Warden from The Bone Season – I mean he’s kind of pointless aside from introducing Paige to the world of rephaites and also being her love interest. I also do not ship Paige and Warden and honestly don’t understand the appeal.

2 Dante from Legendary – He’s really good looking and mysterious…that’s about it? I didn’t understand why Tella would be so attracted to him especially when he gets in her way and distracts her more than helping her.

3 Dara from The City of Brass – He’s condescending, acts superior and prejudiced and I honestly don’t understand why people love him. He ignores what Nahri wants and makes a huge mess of things but I see a redemption arc coming for him so I hope he gets better.

4 Carden from The Cruel Prince – He is a bully and his relationship with Jude is toxic as hell. Why does everyone love him?!

5 Jace from The Mortal Instruments – I found him really annoying and was very disappointed in finding out that he is a Herondale. How can he be a descendant of Will?!

6 Clary from The Mortal Instruments – Another character from this series who was so irritating that I wanted to skip over her PoV chapters. Like please shut up, you’ve been a shadowhunter for 5 minutes, you do not know everything!

7 Rowan from Throne of Glass – He grew on me a little as we see more of him but he’s still very meh. I’m not a fan of macho alpha males.

8 Aelin from Throne of Glass – My dislike for her grew more and more as her story progresses. She becomes so annoying that I would just want to role my eyes reading her PoV.

9 Feyre from ACOTAR – I did not like her from the very beginning but then I struggled through most of the first book too. She gets worse as the story progresses. By ACOFAS I am so done with her nonsense.

10 Rhysand from ACOTAR – Let me say it loudly, he is problematic as hell and his and Feyre’s relationship is also very problematic and kinda toxic too. Why does everyone love him?! After ACOFAS I literally do not want to see or hear from either of these two again. Please for the love of God do not let them be in the spin off series.

It’s okay I will give you time to digest what you just read. I know, I know, how could I talk about your faves like that. It’s okay, you can still love them.

But if you also don’t like any of these characters, do let me know so that I don’t feel all alone!

And let me know what characters you don’t like but everyone else loves!

Places I Would Love To Travel To

One of the things I discussed with my husband before getting married was that I wanted to travel. I wanted to see the world and experience different cultures and see historic places.

But because I grew up in quite a big family, holidays were always way to expensive for us growing up so I’ve only been on holiday a few times in my life and it has made me want to travel even more!

I am a huge history nerd so for me a holiday is going exploring and discovering the history of the place we travelled to. The worst type of holiday for me is one where I sit by the beach, I would get insanely bored and drive my husband crazy. Trust me, we tried that for one of the days we were on holiday and lets just say it was a stressful experience.

Due to my husband being at university soon after we got married we had to put travelling on hold but now that he has graduated and started working we have finally been able to discuss where to go and I am SO EXCITED!

Honestly there are so many places I want to see and things I want to do I am having a difficult time trying to figure out where to go, though our first one will probably be in Europe somewhere.

So I thought I would talk about some of the places I want to visit one day and share my excitement with all of you!

I have always wanted to travel to Italy and Greece because they are so rich in history! I have spent a weekend in Athens a few years ago and honestly it was the best holiday ever! I saw all the historical places and everything was so beautiful. I cannot wait to go to Italy and visit all the historical places there.

I also want to go to Guatemala and Peru. I want to do the trek to Machu Picchu and visit the Mayan city. I want to go to Jordan to go to Petra and see those amazing buildings built into the mountains. I want to visit Egypt and see the pyramids and all the ancient Egyptian artefacts and history.

I want to visit China to walk on the great wall of China and learn more about it. I want to go to Spain and visit Andalusia and see the amazing architecture and history. I want to go to Morocco to see the oldest University. The list is endless and I could goon for ages!

A lot of these places a filled with history of the Islamic world and it’s always what has fascinated me most. Being Muslim means I have learnt a lot about these as they mentioned in the Quran and also reading history books written about the Islamic world so I want to experience these places in real.

I know that going to some of these places with the current climate may not be possible and my health conditions may prevent me from doing some of the more strenuous things like the hiking up the mountains but that won’t stop me from dreaming!

Do you like travel? Where would you love to visit? Have you been to any of these places?

People Of The Cave (Surah Kahf) – Quranic Reflections

One of the things I do is to open the translation of the Quran on a random page and read the surah (chapter) that it ends up on and try to reflect and gain some insight into those verse I have read.

I often find that although I open the page randomly, I end up reading exactly what I needed to read at that moment in my life. Allah truly knows what we need to hear and it never fails to amaze me!

The most recent one I opened up to chapter 18 of the Quran. Surah Kahf which is a surah that I read every Friday and is filled with so much wisdom. I started reading and one ayah struck me, it talks about the youth who slept for 300 years in the cave, which is where they sought refuge when they were being persecuted.

The ayah is:

“And We turned them to the right and to the left” Quran (18:18)

As both me and my husband are physiotherapists we deal with people with different levels of mobility, some who are even bed bound. And one thing that a bed bound patient needs on a regular basis is to be turned on their right and left, to ensure they don’t get pressure sores. Exactly the way the ayah describes that Allah turned them while they slept. And even though this is something that is part of modern medicine, it was written in the Quran over 1400 years ago.

Every time I read something like this in the Quran, things that we have only recently discovered, it blows my mind. That something as simple as that ayah can cause so much reflection and be so awe-inspiring. It reminds me of the magnificence of Allah, that only He knows all things and that the Quran is filled with so much wisdom and truly will teach us so much, if only we would pay attention.

I am hoping to write more of these as it’s something I do regularly and I wasn’t to share my reflections with you all. And please so share your reflections with me too!

Top 5 Wednesday – Collectibles On Your Bookshelf

Hey booknerds! It’s another Top 5 Wednesday post! This is hosted by Sam over on Thoughts on Tomes where you share you top 5 for the chosen topic for that week. You can check out each weeks topic over on Goodreads.

It’s become pretty common to have merch inspired by your favourite fandoms. There’s everything from clothing to homeware to stationary and so much more! And yes, I have become slightly obsessed with some of these and my bookshelves are filled by not only books, but also bookish merch!

So these are the things that I collect most:

1 Candles – I have well over 80 candles but in my defence I actually burn these on a daily basis and many are almost empty. See totally justified!

2 Enamel pins – another thing that I collect and have far too many of, according to my husband, but what does he know?! I love how they can displayed on banners, clothes and bags!

3 Mugs – do I need that many mugs? Probably not, not I do in fact need them okay?! I do make use of them by using them to store my pens and bookmarks

4 Bookmarks – magnetic character bookmarks are especially my weakness. I just love how adorable they are!

5 Special edition/Signed books – see I do actually keep books on my bookshelves! These are ones that I take extra care with and no-one is allowed to touch them!

Special shout out to tote bags – even though they’re not on my bookshelves I still have so many bookish ones!

So these are bookish things I collect. Do you collect anything?

So this tag is perfect for anyone who reads because lets face it we always have more books than we have read and we will continue to buy more!

1 A book that a certain friend is always telling you to read

My friend Anisha has been telling me to read a couple books since they released and I haven’t gotten to either of them yet. All the Wandering Light and Queen of Air and Darkness are books I really need to read soon! Especially as she’s waiting for me to read them so she can fangirl with me!

2 A book that’s been on your tbr forever and yet you still haven’t picked it up

SO MANY! I have a ridiculous tbr, honestly it’s getting out of hand. One that I have been meaning to read since it released over a year ago is Iron Gold by Pierce Brown. I adore the Red Rising trilogy so I was super excited about reading it but I just haven’t yet. I really want to read it soon though as Darkk Age will be out this summer.

3 A book series you started but haven’t got round to finishing yet

The Kiss of Deception was a book that I read last year and really enjoyed but I never got round to continuing the trilogy. I want to read them this year though. You know, before I forget what happened in the first book.

4 A classic you liked the sound of but never actually read

Peter Pan, I mean I love the films and I’m pretty sure I will love it but I just never read it. Maybe this year! I especially want to read it as my friend Fatima loves it so much and is always telling me to read it.

5 A popular book that it seems that everyone but you has read

I feel like everyone has read Children of Blood and Bone except me. I have been meaning to read it for ages. Hopefully before book two is out I will get to it.

6 A book that inspired a film/tv adaptation that you love but haven’t read yet

A Discovery of Witches, I watched the show and completely fell in love but I had never thought about reading it before I watched but now it has been added to my tbr. Also I so need season two already. Why are they torturing me?!

7 A book that you see all over Instagram but you haven’t picked up yet

The Near Witch by V.E. Schwab, it was recently re-published and it’s absolutely everywhere on Instagram. Hopefully will be able to pick it up soon!

So these are my answers. Everyone is welcome to join in the tag!
